It is annoying and frustrating to get a speeding ticket at Lake Waukomis.

The Police do set speed traps, give little mrgin over the posted limit, and rarely give warnings.

I don't like to drive through Platte Woods for the same reason.

However, when I drive in Lake Waukomis and in Platte Woods, I pay attention to the speed limit, make sure I use my signals, wear my seat belt, and come to a complete stop at stop signs.

If I get a ticket, I will be mad at the cop because he caught me, but I am the only one to blame. If I pay attention, they won't have reason to write me a ticket.

I am hoping our new police department will take some time for community relations, get to know the residents and appreciate the special city we have.

I think it's worth noting the Lake Waukomis Police Department is making a genuine effort to meet the citizens of our community. See the newsletter this month (July). You'll find names and photos of the officers and the monthly police report shows a much higher warning to ticket ratio. These officers do a great job. Thanks!

The Police department needs to be more considerate of residents and citizens. I was given a ticket for going 27 outside of my house. Having never been pulled over, being a resident, and it being 11:00 on a Saturday, I expected an understanding conversation. Instead, the police officer was rude and offended my wife and I. We have not seen the same officer since that month, but I am not the only resident who has experienced frustrations regarding an insensitive approach.

I would prefer a warning on fisrt offense for a lake resident. I jog around the lake four times a week and work in mid-town. I understand the need for police protection. I know and understand how to follow procedures with curtosy as well.

At the risk of alienating some friends and neighbors I am moving our discussion over here per the last FB post. I did delete the thread as I stated I would once the suggestion was made to move it here. Please post any upcoming discussions that could be brought before the city in a democratic manor.

Thank you,

Thank you Cindy,
I think it would be helpful to have everyone collaborate on an approach to this. I caught that last recommendation to take this to our City meeting. I agree with that...but...think it would be counterproductive to hash it all out during the meeting. I'd like to see us all be well prepared in advance.
Sincerely,
Bob

Bob- I couldn't agree more and that is exactly what needs to be done.

I was very dissapointed yesterday when some of the responses during the discussion on Lake Waukomis facebook resulted in "if you don't like it, move." We all live here. We all pay taxes, (well most anyway). People have a right to their own opinion without being told to think about living somewhere else.
